Diana M.H. Brenner, FAIA Architect was selected by Union Planters to design its first new branch in over ten years. It was the desire of the client to portray a new high tech presence while at the same time presenting a comfortable atmosphere of community-based customer service. BDI developed the unusual floor plan based on the desired customer flow through the facility. The customer enters into an intimate service area where they are personally greeted and routed to the appropriate personnel. A central interactive customer zone divides the retail bank teller line from private offices and conference room. This zone features a monumental video wall where overhead monitors show point of sale merchandizing and current stock quotes. From the exterior vantage point, this same wall projects changing light colors of bank graphics to the passersby. A central self-service computer terminal invites customers to check quotes on-line. The unique teller line sits on a diagonal to lend more privacy for customers yet enables visibility to the tellers.
The interior finishes include cherry and painted millwork, slate and porcelain tile, carpeting and vinyl wall covering. The central space is accented by clerestory windows which bring in natural light for a more comfortable feel. The overall lighting scheme is based on a retail application. This gives more accents and a sense of drama to the space.
