Diana M.H. Brenner, FAIA Architect was selected by The National Bank of Indianapolis as part of a design team to conceptualize and design their first free-standing branch bank. BDI was responsible for developing the schematic floor plan and assisted in defining the architectural style of the building. Being the premier structure for this new organization, a unique look was desired to set the building apart from typical retail banks. BDI selected the exterior finish materials for the building and designed all interior and exterior signage. Diana M.H. Brenner, FAIA Architect completed the interior architecture and interior design for the project, and consistently duplicated this look at numerous other branch sites.
BDI developed a design solution based on the architectural concepts of Louis Sullivan, an architect known for his bank designs throughout the Midwest. A central public space is surrounded by more intimate, private customer areas. The traditional “teller windows” are framed by unique internally lit arches. Rich colors and durable materials, such as marble and mahogany stained cherry veneers, are contrasted by light toned walls and floors. Diana M.H. Brenner, FAIA Architect integrated interior design concepts through selection of furniture and finishes, artwork, accessories and signage. The involvement of the designer in the early strategic development allowed the firm to deliver an extremely high quality, intricate project on time and in budget.
