The “Nest” Football Lounge, Ball State University
As Architects and Interior Designers of the Ron and Joan Venderly Football Complex, Diana
Brenner had a particular interest in extending the level of design from the newest building into the adjacent BSU Football Training Center (FTC).
Given the trend for most University Athletic Departments’ desire to attract and retain talent, there has been a recent uptick in the design of upscale ancillary spaces for athletes to relax, socialize and bond.
The proposed concept for this project was to create a “wow factor” space at the entry to the FTC in order to create a special environment for the present and future athletes of BSU. It is a combination of new lighting, furniture, furnishings, equipment and graphics all working together to create new dynamic gathering space for the staff and players.
Brenner created a three-dimensional cardinal sculpture, a nod to the Ball State mascot. Is centered over a new pedestal highlighting the recent MAC trophy. The new entry walk-off carpet also used the BSU logo and the room divider serves as an acoustical separation. BDI also proposed new glass logo marker boards for the coaches’ offices.
